DISTRICT 86 BECOMES ENERGY STAR PARTNER

Hinsdale—The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has accepted Hinsdale Township High School District 86 as an Energy Star Partner. Through this voluntary partnership, District 86 will work with USEPA to improve energy efficiency, to reduce energy costs, and to help preserve the environment for future generations.

Dr. Nicholas Wahl, Superintendent, stated "Becoming an Energy Star Partner is an additional step that the District has taken in its commitment to controlling energy usage and costs while at the same time reducing its environmental impact. This initiative, combined with the Energy Education program that the District has recently adopted, will provide us with the framework for developing and implementing the District’s energy strategy."

Energy Star was introduced by the USEPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the Energy Star label can be found on more than 60 different kinds of products, new homes, and commercial and industrial buildings. Products and buildings that have earned the Energy Star designation prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting the strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the government. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of Energy Star, saved about $19 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 29 million vehicles.*
